These shims are for between the carrier and the bearing, not between the bearing and the housing. This should be specified as the most common way to set-up an axle is between the bearing and the housing (especially for the Dana 44). The stock set-up for my 2004 Jeep Wrangler was between the bearing and the housing. There we no spacers included (0.100" or thicker) and the shims were randomly between 0.020" and 0.003" - definitely not enough for a set-up from scratch, even IF I was planning on doing the set-up between the bearings and the carrier. Plus the manufacturer (Yukon) does not list specifications for this kit anywhere, so you cannot tell what the OD, ID, and thickness ranges are before you purchase to double-check. None of the Yukon shim or spacer kits give these measurements. While the material used is of good quality, the size of these shims make them useless for me. Even if I had not already pressed on my new Timken bearings I would not be able to do a proper backlash/preload set-up with this kit.

This style kit makes building, fitting, measuring, and installing shim packs much easier. And there were plenty of different sizes.

I have a 2005 TJ unlimited with the Dana 44 rear end which is the shims that go on the outside of the carrier bearings. I double checked on Yukons own website to make sure that these (SK 30214) were compatible for my vehicle, yet when they arrived they are the style that go on the inside of the bearing against the carrier and not the housing. This caused me a great deal of trouble for several reasons. 1 I had to dig pretty deep in the forums before finding out you could use the older behind bearing style shims safely, 2 I needed to purchase additional bearings to grind down for use as setup bearings, and 3 there were not enough shins to account for the Total thickness of the stock shims so i ended up having to remove material from the thick stock outer Shims and combine them with these inner shims just to get where I needed to be. For anyone else in my shoes I would like to comment that I'm not sure if the shims listed for the Dana 44 HD are compatible with the non HD axle in the TJs or not but they certainly "look" like the ones I needed, so perhaps Yukon needs to update their parts catalog.
