The only reason it is a 4 star review is because the receiver sometimes does not play sound when turned on. I have to select to the input that I have defaulted it to use when coming one. It shows the selected input on the display just no sound. I havent tried the firmware update that everyone has stated corrects allot of bugs but will soon see if that helps.
It does the job amazingly I've had mine for 4 years. I us it to watch everything and gaming on it is amazing. Though my "game input" is now finicky and will randomly lose picture so I use a different one now. The system does have an heat issue mine is in a small space but front and back are open. When it starts to heat up you can hear it as it buzzes after a hr at vol 22 and will over heat/ shutdown in about 2hrs at 50+ idk my ohms 5 JBl speakers + a JBL base. I fixed the heating problem by drilling holes in my TV stand and installing 2x120mm fans. But other then fighting the heat this thing is amazing and has had held up to probly the most stress you can put it under.
The receive works very well! The interface was easy and it allows amazing 4K quality to appear on a 4K tv. Still need to tweak the sound calibration but overall, a good purchase. No regrets here.
This is a great value entry system. If you’re on a budget and want Dolly Atmos, this is a great buy. Supports CEC, and I was able to use my Apple TV remote. Supports up to 7.1. Upgraded firmware brought CEC support. The system was easy to setup.

I feel like I’m in the movie theater. It’s such an amazing experience if you purchase the right speakers. And place them at the right spots. I love the 4K pass through with Earc. Dolby Atmos and Dts:X sound amazing.
what a great product, NOT!!!, I actually thought i would get 3 to 4 years from the STR-DH790. Dead in less than two years.
Great AV receiver with latest features. Worth it price. In my opinion only withdrew in this AV receiver is boring user interface there are 3 different interfaces for different options which confuses me.
Low audio options, balance etc.
