Moen's description said a 24" bar would be required for installation at an angle using wall studs 16" OC. Do the math for an 18" bar (purchased): 18" squared minus 16" squared, take the square root giving 8.25" rise over the length of the bar, or about 25 degrees up from horizontal, which works out very well for attaching by a toilet. The holes and slots on the mounting plate at each end of the bar allow easy positioning of the bar so as to have three screws at each end, per the instructions. I put a couple of wide painter's tape over the wall where each plate was to go, then marked locations of the holes on the tape with the bar held in place. Instructions said to drill 1/8" pilot holes for the screws (provided). I drilled each hole to the full depth of the screw. As another reviewer noted, using a 1/8" drill bit made turning the screws in very difficult. I drove one screw in most of the way, using a Phillips bit and small ratchet wrench, but this was indeed difficult, and I was damaging the slot in the screw head slightly. So I backed out the screw and drilled out the holes to 9/64", which is just about the minor diameter of each screw and thus the proper size for the pilot holes. That worked out better. The bar looks nice, is of good quality, and other than using the proper size drill bit for installation, as described above, the installation is a fairly straightforward DIY project.

Great delivery and a super strong product
Just got these installed in my shower; one outside and one inside. Safe support entering and exiting the stall, especially since the stall has a slightly recessed floor pan. These are rigid and do not move when I pull on them. Slightly textured surface is not slick if your hands are wet. Replaced a suction-cup grab bar that had come unstuck a few times. Neat installation escutcheons cover the screws.
