Why in the world did Oreck not put wheels on their orbiter? This thing is a monster to move from one room to the other. I practically need a dolly to move the machine but it gets the job done. Once you get it started it does glide across the floor with little effort on my part. I understand it has to be heavy so enough pressure is applied to remove scuff marks dirt etc... which is why I made this purchase and it worked. I also bought 3M red pads, they aren't an Oreck brand but they removed the scuff marks. My husband wears orthotics and heavy hiking boots and there are black scuff marks from one end of the house to the other. But with this machine along with the 3M pad removed the marks and the floor shines like never before. Now if I can only figure out a way to move the Oreck without hurting my back.
 I love this machine! Got my floors to look great, I used a 12 inch black pad to strip of some really old wax and the floors looked brand new after wet vac, gave it a good rinse and applied the wax, beautiful.

Based on Oreck's claims that this machine will polish marble floors, in addition to tile and carpeted floors, I bought the machine and Oreck's lamb's wool polishing pad and their beige marble pads. After reading the instructions and using a marble polishing powder, I see zero difference before and after polishing. So I called Oreck to ask them what would be the most aggressive pad they recommend I use on marble floors. After an extended wait time, the call was answered by a rude person named Erica who sounded very young and inexperienced and who seemed completely stumped by the question and acted as if I was trying to use the machine for a purpose different from its intended use. So I asked her, if this machine is not for polishing marble floors (although Oreck advertises that this is one of the uses of the machine), what IS the machine intended for? Her reply was "carpet and tile." She put me on hold for awhile to ask someone else and came back with a non-answer, "We recommend you get in touch with the manufacturer of your marble floor and get their advice." She just tried to pass the buck. I explained to her that the "manufacturer" was the previous owner of the house, who was a stone mason and who is dead, so I have no way of getting any information there. She basically just shrugged and tried to bring the call to closure without answering my question. So I got more specific and asked, "Do you recommend your red pad for marble?" She answered, "We don't make a red pad, sir." I told her that I'm on Amazon's website looking at a page of Oreck pads (made by Oreck!) that include red, green, blue, and black pads. She replied, "Those products aren't on Oreck's website, so I can't comment on them." It was insanely frustrating. Again, she tried to terminate the call without answering my question, so I explained that I spent a lot of money on their machine and pads and would like her to please escalate the call to someone at Oreck who could answer my question. She heaved a heavy irritated sigh and told me she'd have to open a case file in order to escalate the call, and I told her that was fine. In order to open the case file, she required my first and last name and full mailing address, which seemed a bit overkill. Eventually, she returned with a phone number and a case number and explained that she couldn't transfer me and that I'd have to call this other number. So I called that number and was on hold and eventually that call was answered by someone who insisted on knowing: 1) My case number 2) My first and last name 3) My full address including zip code This level of security authentication seems ridiculous considering there is no kind of fraud a caller could commit by just asking a question about which pad to use for marble floors. In the end, the escalation department passed the buck and told me to call Home Depot and ask them. I'm not kidding. I will will never purchase another Oreck product again. The Oreck Orbiter 550 did NOTHING to polish my marble floors, Erica was rude and unhelpful, Oreck won't answer questions about THEIR OWN pads that are sold here on Amazon, and even their escalation department passed the buck and wouldn't answer my question, and yet Oreck advertises that their product can be used on Marble floors. AVOID.
There is a reason why this unit gets such high ratings; it is just about the perfect floor machine! We use it to polish wood floors in our house (4000+ sq.ft.) and to clean the brick on the patio. Very well balanced and easy to use; it won't kick you all over the room. My brother, who does most of the cleaning here, dotes on his Oreck. WAYYYYYY cheaper on Amazon than in the local stores. Don't forget to order pads, and when you do look for the bargains. . . we bought some of the lambs wood buffing pads at about 1/3 the price Oreck sells them at by using Amazon. Same pads! Last thing. . . Bona makes the best floor cleaner and polish. Go on out and try all the others, you'll end up using the Bona. You can get that on Amazon as well, but they also sell it at Home Depot.

My wife and I love this thing, not only to polish wood floor, but ceramic as well, it scrubs the grout really well without having to get down on your knees to do it. And it is the only one you would find for a reasonable price, everything else is industrial type and will be hundreds of dollar more. Great buy, very happy with it.
